  1. I guess that I will take this opportunity to hopefully get this blog start on the right track. With what has happened with Obama’s election as President of the United States, it proves something that was said to me many years ago when I was a young man. “That you can be whatever you want to be. The key is to prepare youself to be what you want to be.” This has been said to many black children over many years and it was more a dream than a reality for most. Today it is reality for all. Thake advantage of the possiblities that are before you by preparing yourself. What does all this mean. Establish goals, yes even goals based off of dreams. When you establish the goal find out what skill sets or training is required to acheive the goal. Then put in the effort to aquire the training or skill sets required. Yes, there is more that can be said but I will leave this as a start. Hopefully others will add more to this blog.

  2. You are absolutely correct. We must also reach back and pull a student up. No more excuses. Students must be encouraged to give their all with anyting they attempt. Even if we cannot get the parents to understand the importance of education, the students must be enlightened to the many opportunities available to them with a college degree. The world is growing in technology also. Our students must be technologically literate. They are competing against students of the world not just in the USA.

  3. Our children need a strong foundation in the basic skills of reading, writing, math, science, and foreign languages. Children can learn to read, write, and count before preschool. Children can learn a second language while mastering their primary language. A college preparatory curriculum will prepare our young people for success in college, the workforce, or the military. Other countries have been successful in educating their young people in the basic skills and they have excelled beyond their US counterparts. A strong foundation is needed to develop the advanced skills. Our young people need to be multilingual to compete in the 21st century. This is true for jobs internationally and in the US. The research on education in other countries is available. There are methods that have been tried and tested.

  4. Janice,
I salute you in guiding a teaching a generation that will grow up knowing that there are no boundaries to what they can achieve, no pigeon-holed ideas to what they can be. With the solid foundation of reading, the (dying) art of writing, mathematics, the sciences, and the arts you are making a path for our world’s future leaders. Special thanks for reaching out to children who don’t learn by traditional methods. Kudos!
